Everyday is an Adventure Here

Though Carrie is sick with the swine flu,
yes, it has infected our house,
I'd like to share what I came home to the other day...

Keep in mind, these photos are in no way tampered with or faked.
Both Carrie and Shane came home wearing the exact same sweater and then mirrored each other for the rest of the night.

Carmel: the Only Habitat of the Pygmy Mudhatch

Went to Carmel for the Carmel Art & Film Festival
then I got tonsillitis, followed by a bout of laryngitis.
I'm on the mend now, so I'm happy to share with you the wonderful pictures from my trip.

Shane was super excited re: the goody bag

the view was absolutely STUNNING

I got sick so Shane built me a fire

I was super cold. I liked the fire.

ADORABLE shop in downtown Carmel

On the upside, I felt alright enough to muster the energy to visit the #1 Aquarium in the world.
If you're ever on California's Central Coast, check out the aquarium in Monterrey.
In case you never make it, here are some pictures to wet your whistle.

can you see the sea horse?

This is Halloween, Halloween, Halloween

It's getting to be that time of year again--
the air gets crisp and every day starts to feel exactly the way I remember Halloween felt when I was younger.

to get in the spirit of things,
we made Halloween cookies
(thanks, Pillsbury, for the assist)

then we took the extra dough and I had the bright idea to have a Halloween cookie making contest with my roommates.
I swear...I'm becoming my mother.
(love you, Hazel!)

Shane made an eyeball.
Marissa made Frankenstein's monster.
I had a witches hat and a black cat (in an orange suit...)

Frankenstein got a little beat up coming out of the pan (my b!) but really, I think it adds character

Just like in third grade, everything I do involves a cat in some way or another...

"It Was So Good I Nearly Peed my Pants" or "It was Almost Better than Pirates of Penzance"

Latest fabulous adventures in Hollywood land:

Friday night was spent at Dimples the karaoke bar.
I was a smash hit performing Britney Spears' Oops I Did it Again in a pink wig. Super classy.

My roommate's hamster, Mikey, is a famous hamster. He won the hamster race on The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien.
So we pinned all our hopes and dreams on him and took him to Petco for their hamster races.
Spoiler Alert: He didn't win...

Yes...that is Marissa surrounded by all 7 yr olds.

Then I was off to the opera with my friend Katy to see Thomas Hampson in recital at the LA Opera.
It was BEAUTIFUL.
It was nice to get dressed up and be in grown up society once again.

A New Day

I've decided that I  have to stay positive.
Sure, the economy is terrible and jobs are scarce,
but I'm Madison Goshdarn Bateman!
I can do this.
I am the Joan Holloway-Harris of Assistants!
(well...slightly less curvy perhaps)

Am determined that I will find a job.

Off to be FABULOUS now!

Karaoke tonight after services.
Happy Sukkot, all you Jews!

This is so LA.

Every Girl is a Princess at Disneyland!

My birthday was this past weekend and in true LA style I went to Disneyland,
where no matter how old you are--23--you are still a princess.

My free tickey (thanks, Walt!) and my birthday button!

The world is my castle! ...or whatever that phrase is...

The brave boys who came with me

The teacups were my favorite!

ps- I'm TOTALLY wearing my birthday button EVERY time I go to Disneyland! EVERYONE is so nice and tells you happy birthday! It's the best.

Here's the the best birthday yet!

Living the Dream

Well I've been living in LA since January...
so, what is that? Ten months now?
I've been out of school since June so that's I guess, five months that I've been trying to find a job.
Well let me tell you, the economy sucks.

Didn't they tell you that you had to go to college these days to get a good job?
Well, I went to college. I was AWESOME at college.
And guess what?
I can't even get a job at Petco because all the shitty jobs are going to 40 yr olds who are collecting unemployment.
I'm over qualified for everything I apply for.
Yeah. Seriously.

I feel so lied to by the generation before me.
"Work hard and you'll go far," they said.
I'm here to tell you that's a lie.
I have worked hard but still, no one wants to pay me.
That was alright when I was in college but I've got a mouth to feed (my own) and thank yous and pats on the back don't pay the bills, baby.

I like to think I have a pretty solid resume.
I like to think I'm energetic and dedicated and driven.
I like to think I'd jazz up the atmosphere of any place that would hire me.
But I can't even get a foot in the door and believe you me, I'm trying.

I suppose all there is to do is be fabulous and keep the dream alive for now...
trying to stay positive. going to keep on truckin'.
